Make a short microphone test in SceneDub, play it back, and download it. Open that file in the waveform viewer to inspect quiet regions and strong peaks locally. Listening remains essential: a waveform alone cannot tell you whether speech is clear.

Grant microphone permission and speak at the volume you expect to use. A silent playback may mean the wrong device is selected, permission was denied, or the microphone is muted. Distortion calls for a lower input level or more distance. Move background noise sources away and use headphones when playing reference audio so the microphone does not record the speakers.
Keep the browser's real file format
MediaRecorder output depends on supported browser and codec combinations. SceneDub can return a browser-supported format such as WebM or MP4; it does not promise MP3 recording. Renaming a WebM file to .mp3 does not transcode it. Keep the original download and use a compatible player or a separate converter when your editor needs another format.
Use the waveform as a visual check
Flat regions can indicate pauses or silence, while larger peaks indicate stronger amplitude. Neither establishes loudness compliance or speech accuracy. The viewer decodes a complete supported file and does not repair it, remove noise, or export a waveform image. Download important recordings before navigation or clearing browser data, then use the saved source for transcription if you need written notes.
